Cheeseburger Sliders with Mom’s Secret Burger Sauce

These Cheeseburger Sliders are everything we love about a classic cheeseburger, just made easier and way more fun to eat. They’re loaded with seasoned ground beef, two kinds of melty American cheese, and my mom’s homemade burger sauce, all tucked inside buttery Hawaiian rolls.

I make these on busy weeknights when I need something I know the whole family will actually eat and my kids never complain when these are on the menu. They come together in about 30 minutes, bake all at once in one pan, and are just as good for an easy dinner as they are for game day or feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

For the Sliders

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1-1 1/2 lb ground beef I used 80/20
  • 1/2 white or yellow onion diced
  • 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 6 slices Land O Lakes® Yellow Deli American
  • 6 slices Land O Lakes® White Deli American
  • 1 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

For Mom's Secret Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 2 tbsp relish or diced pickles
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven. Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Make the burger sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, pickles, salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • Cook the beef. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, onion, seasoned salt and garlic powder. Cook, breaking up the beef as it cooks, until browned and the onion is tender. Drain any excess grease if needed.
  • Slice the rolls. Keeping the Hawaiian rolls connected, slice the entire sheet in half horizontally to create a top and bottom layer. Place the bottom half in the prepared baking dish.
  • Assemble the sliders. Layer 6 slices of American cheese over the bottom rolls. Spread the cooked beef evenly over the cheese, then top with the remaining 6 slices of cheese.
  • Add the sauce. Spread the burger sauce over the cut side of the top half of the rolls, then place them over the sliders.
  • Brush with butter. Mix the melted butter with the sesame seeds and brush evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  • Bake. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops are lightly golden.
  • Serve. Slice into 12 individual sliders and serve warm with extra burger sauce, if desired.

Tips for Making This Recipe

  • Drain the beef well. If your ground beef releases a lot of grease while cooking, drain it before assembling the sliders. This keeps the bottoms from getting soggy.
  • Make them your own. Add extra pickles, diced jalapeños or even cooked bacon before baking. You can also prep the beef and burger sauce ahead of time, then assemble and bake when you’re ready to eat.
  • Don’t overbake them. The beef is already cooked, so you’re really just warming everything through and melting the cheese. Pull the sliders once the cheese is melted and the tops are golden so the rolls stay soft and buttery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make cheeseburger sliders ahead of time?
Yes! Cook the ground beef and make the burger sauce up to 1–2 days ahead. Store them separately in the refrigerator, then assemble and bake the sliders when you’re ready to serve.
What kind of ground beef works best for cheeseburger sliders?
I prefer 80/20 ground beef because it gives the sliders the most classic, juicy burger flavor. Just be sure to drain any excess grease before assembling.
How do I store and reheat leftover cheeseburger sliders?
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in a 350°F oven or air fryer until warmed through to help keep the rolls from getting soggy.
